St. Cuthbert's Church

window Over Kellet Parish Church and The Methodist Church
is situated on the south side of the village on the Nether Kellet/Lancaster Road. There has been a church on this site since 1251 and the present building dates from the early C13th with additions made in C16th. The seating consists of 'box pews' which were fitted in 1819. The East Window, which fills the church with colour, even on a dull day, was installed in 1868 and makes a valuable contribution to the atmosphere of peace and calm which fills this ancient building. However, St. Cuthbert's is very much a church for the new millennium.

The Vicar, Ken Clapham, has friends in high places; two of the American astronauts who walked on the Moon, the late Col. James B. Irwin (Apollo 15, 1971) and Gen. Charles Duke (Apollo 16, 1972) have visited the parish and preached in St. Cuthbert's. Our vicar receives regular updates on the NASA Space Programme, he and his wife have visited NASA on several occasions and met the astronauts, many of whom are committed Christians. Our Vicar's ambition for the new millennium is to preach from on board the Space Shuttle. St. Cuthbert's is a church built on sound traditions but with an eye to the future and ear to the ground.
